The Club was
formed in 2003 to meet a demand for the sailing of local residents model
craft. In the first instance an advertisement was placed in the local
Chichester Observer to access the actual need of such a facility within the Selsey
area. As a result of the advertisement, thirty two local
residents registered their desire to establish a local Model Boat Club.
With this in mind Selsey Town Council was approached to seek out their views on this subject, and to ask for their backing for the project. A representative party was invited to attend the next meeting of the full Town Council to put their case for the proposed Model Boat Club. They voted that full backing should be given to the proposed project. Next stop was Chichester District Council the Owners of the Local Pond which had now become more like a small lake due having at that time been recently expanded 120%. The Sports & Leisure Dept. staff were very helpful. Our proposals, including draft Constitution/Rules etc, were lodged with them for their perusal. After a very favourable response, the next step was a site meeting at the pond in order that their representative could see and discuss our plans. The Ecological Dept, Environmental Dept, Planning & our Local Town Council needed to be put in the picture also. The project was given the green light by all of these and the Estates Dept. legal officers were able to draw up the Lease/Licence. Those residents who showed an interest twelve weeks earlier were asked to attend a meeting at the Local Town Hall, to officially form the Club, agree the Constitution & collect membership fees. We were sailing!
